Hiding from Japanese Ghosts
University Urban Legends in Nagoya
名古屋な大学の都市伝説
This urban legend originated online as a 'happened to a friend of a brother' story.
During an examination period at one of Nagoya's top universities, the students who were busy undergoing their Economic History test were startled when a student burst through the classroom doors.
The supervisor of the exam quickly tried to shoo the late student away, declaring university rules dictate no student may commence an exam twenty minutes after the scheduled starting time.
The late student was distraught, and begged to be able to take the exam.

The exchange continued for a few minutes before the late student exited the classroom, defeated.
Upon the completion of the exam, the other students left the classroom to discover a corpse smashed against the cement five stories below.
The late student had left the classroom and jumped directly over the balcony to their death, only to be discovered by the same test-takers over an hour later.
In a cut-throat industry of success and prestige, university officials successfully smothered any media leaks - hiding the death from society.
While the authenticity of this urban legend may be questionable, there was one prominent incident of suicide at the Nagoya Keizei University in Inuyama, when a Vietnamese student hanged himself on August 21st, 2013 in a laboratory. He was discovered by a fellow student - similar to the aforementioned urban legend.
These urban legends are also rumoured to originate from universities in Nagoya.

A woman or strong man stands outside the phone box in front of the school's bus terminal around nine o'clock at night. The figure is seen to be crying, and will gaze at drivers as they drive past.
It is said that if you turn off your car stereo, you can hear a strange sound while driving past.

In one of the bathrooms, a series of ghosts are said to lurk. If standing alone in front of a mirror, a ghost will be staring back at you.
The ghosts change the position of the mirrors on the walls; people exit the bathroom, realise they forgot something and then return to find the mirrors in different places from seconds before.

There is an oddly-shaped telephone in the cafeteria. A couple had a relationship which ended badly and one of the lovers commit suicide through burning. If a person picks up the handset and listens carefully, a strange voice can be heard on the other end of the line.
Nanzan University
In the main square of the campus, a disembodied voice will follow people who walk alone.

Every year there is a religious play celebrating Christian history (particularly the persecution of Christ). One year, the student who acted as the persecutor became overwhelmed with negative emotions, and commit suicide. It is said their ghost can still be seen during practice runs of the play.
