Togoku Mountain (東谷山) is situated in the northern suburbs of Nagoya near Moriyama-ku. Despite being a beautiful scenic spot, there are stories of wandering spirits and the feeling of being overwhelmed by fear. The trees around the shrine are said to be often found with wara ningyo (藁人形 straw dolls used for curses) nailed to the trunk. A white fog is said to appear suddenly at night, and sometimes it is possible to see bodies of hanged victims from the trees.
Although it is said to be a dangerous ghost spot, the shrine grounds are beautifully maintained and is used as a romantic hang out for couples.
