Hiding from Japanese Ghosts
Senses Test
霊感テスト
"What do you see?"

A test of memory and senses, this mind experience returns the participant to their past - exploring their childhood home.
Similar to a psychological test, the 'Senses Test' is a mind-imagery process which challenges a person's senses and memory.
Before the explanation of this urban legend, try the test yourself. Ensure you are in a quiet, dark room with no distractions.
First, picture the home you were most emotionally-attached to as a child. Test your senses.
  • what can you touch?
  • what can you hear?
  • what can you smell?
  • what can you see?
  • what can you taste?
Next, the front door to the home is open. Enter the home, and open the first window or door to your left.
Go in a clock-wise circle, opening each window and door until every opening stands wide.
Now, close every window and door in the reverse order you opened them. Make sure they are locked.
Leave the home, and stand facing the entrance.
Open one eye, and once your sight has adjusted, open the other.
Answer these questions:
What did you see?
When you were moving around the home, did you see any people?

  • The first family member or friend you saw is the most important figure from your childhood.
  • If you saw multiple family members or friends, you had a pleasant childhood of warm memories.
  • If your family members or friends were standing frozen, facing away from you, you had a difficult childhood with memories which continue to effect your adulthood.
  • If you saw an unknown figure, it is believed you possess a sixth sense and have had an encounter with a spirit.
'霊感' (reikan) translates to 'sixth sense' in Japanese, and the above test is an urban legend which identifies those who may have the ability to see spirits.
However, there is a note of warning to this urban legend.
During the test, if you saw an unknown figure and their face was hidden or partly covered by shadows, the spirit(s) were negative and wished to do you harm.
If the unknown figure was moving towards you or had contact with you in any way, they are still with you to this day.
