Kyoto Jumpers
Kyoto-shi, Kyoto-ku
Praised for its glamorous architectural design, Kyoto Station is a looming building of expansive glass, open areas, and hidden metropolises. Opposite Kyoto Station stands a red and white international icon: Kyoto Tower - an awe-inspiring monument atop the Kyoto Tower Hotel. Nearby, the Cerema building and Yodabashi Camera building invite tourists with promises of sales, authentic Japanese electronics, and karaoke parlours.
Despite the bustle of sight-seeing crowds, central Kyoto has a recent history of murder and suicide. There have been numerous reports of people jumping or being pushed to their deaths - unfortunate instances which are now known as the 'Kyoto Jumpers'.
